Windows Vista is being launched to business customers today in NYC, forbes highlight some of its bloated features in this article. But I’ve picked put some lowlights of this new operating sytem which consensus agrees is nothing more than a poor photocopy of Osx.
Vista, which will go on sale to consumers on Jan. 30, 2007, needs 1 gigabyte of memory to tile through its three-dimensional effects
Vista Consumers’ collective cost to upgrade their computers’ memory to support Vista will likely reach $17.5 billion, estimates Tom Trill, marketing director for Samsung Semiconductor, the world’s largest memory chipmaker. Computers sold this year have an average of 854 megabytes of memory, up from 630 megabytes last year, he said. To get their old machines ready for Vista, the upgrade cost will run most people $50 to $100 per computer.
For comparison, Osx Tigers amazing 3d core animations visible thoughout run on a minimum requirement of just 256mb Ram!, and according totheplaceforitall.com, Next generation Osx Leopard will also require only 256mb ram!
That’s good news for Microsoft, which can afford to develop so-far unprofitable products like the Xbox videogame console and the Zune portable music player thanks to Windows’ 70% operating margin.
Pretty disappointing that Microsoft can reap a 70% margin on this product, if they increased their spending on OS development, and lowered their margins, couldn’t they create a leaner meaner OS? Sure but you have to see they are taking care of their friends in the RAM business:

The Apple Comment by Denny Grabowski
After my switching to the fantastic Apple Computers I feel very secure and
comfortable because I have no viruses and other attacks to fear. I left my
Windows computer in his bag and forgot that I still own one until a good friend
of mine asked me for my help to fix his computer. I took my old Windows based
laptop and went over to him. Of course his computer system was infected with a
terrible virus. But that didn’t surprise me. It was another thing that shocked me
really. I turned his computer on and tried to fix the problem and at this point I
realised the big advantages of my Apple system. First of all it takes me not too
much time to turn my computer on; secondly everything is much easier to
handle.
But back to my friend’s problem. The virus infected his system hard. After the
removing of that bad thing I started the Defragmentation Program to tidy up his
hard drive and what a surprise, after a while it stopped. I don’t know how and why
so I advised my friend to kill his hard drive to reinstall his Windows system. He
looked at my with his big surprised eyes because he didn’t have his recovery CD
and he didn’t have an external hard drive or another place to safe his files and
folders. That brought me back to my lucky situation to own an Apple machine.
My friend knew already the advantages of Apple computers so that he plays
already with the thought to buy one of those in the future. And when he is doing
that he will join a good time to get one of the best systems in the world. In the
future Apple will release the so called Time Machine that will automatically
update your system, that means you will find every single file and folder again
when you deleted it unfortunately. That does mean also you don’t have to care
about that because it runs automatically. Further, just a couple of days ago Apple
released his new MacBooks with the newest chips and more power and speed.
For my friend exactly the right thing, because so far he owns a laptop. But that is
not all! When he will buy an Apple Computer before Apple will bring the new
Leopard system on the market it will cost him not a fortune to get the new
system in compare with Windows. And by the way, Windows does a lot of copies
to get a good Vista system on the market. It looks like the current OS X and
Leopard!
I could continue that list, than Apple did a fantastic job to develop their computers.
They are much better and more stable, very good to work with them and up to
date as well.
If you feel in the same situation like my friend and if you want a new computer
you get the best opportunity than ever yet! For every customer has Apple the right
system. Think about it and make the right choice to spend your money. As
student, teacher, freelancer or whatever, you will get the right system that you
need. Merry Christmas, Winter Time is Apple Time!

At this wintery stage in the year, its nice to see a product that keeps your ipod safe and secure, this sleek Nike backpack can be custom built in ANY color config you like, and has a dock connector inside for your ipod, a keypad and a headphone port on the exterior to access without touching the iPod.

Rob Pegoraro writes for the Washington Post:
“An Apple machine will be much simpler to set up and maintain, thanks in large part to Mac OS X’s outstanding record of security. It will also include Web, e-mail, photo and music software far superior to the junk on most PCs”

Via Engadget, Regarding “Palm’s Ed Colligan laughs off iPhone”

“Gates isn’t Jobs, and Steve’s phone certainly isn’t going to be riddled with the same issues as our beloved WinMo. No, the iPhone will have its own set of annoying issues, but believe you us, Ed, Apple will “just walk in,” so you’d better have a few and-one-more-thing-s up those sleeves of yours if you’re thinking about stopping a mass defection.”

I wanted to let you all know about a great iPod accessory I picked up in the last few days, the Logitech Audiostation Express is a sleek speaker system for your iPods, it works with ANY iPods on the market, and operates off mains power or six ‘AA’ batteries.

Of all the iPod speakers on the market, the Audiostation Express has at least one clear benefit, which is a Video output Jack. No other iPod speakers I found could provide this feature which is a great asset to the speakers, it means that if you’re in the car, a hotel room or one of your rooms in your house, wherever there’s a TV or video capable screen, you can take the output from the iPod video and watch it on the full screen, while getting great sounding audio from your logitech speakers.
This product is not now on sale yet in the U.S from Apple , but is available in Europe from Amazon.co.uk here
Preparing for my trip to Venice, I’ve realised a great feature of Apple’s iPod USB Power Adapter
, I have one of these because I bought the wonderful Apple iPod AV Connection Kit
which includes a Dock, Remote, AV Cable, Power Adapter and Usb Connection Lead.
Because the iPod Power Adapter has a USB Socket on it (instead of a lead out like other chargers including Nokia, Sony etc) I can plug in my Usb Connection cable to my phone to the Apple Adapter and Charge.
People like Larry Page talk about standardized power all the time and we already have it! My Phone and iPod charge off the SAME adapter (reducing my luggage) if my camera could charge via USB (and why shouldn’t it?) I’d have just one charger for all these devices. Apple is obviously spearheading this wise power adapter practice by leaving a nice USB socket on its Power Adapter.
Conrast this method to Nokias Power Adapters, Every Year since 1997 I’ve bought a new Nokia Phone, and each year they give me a new hard wired charge identical to the one they gave with the prior years model.
Is this mentally sound? Nokia Power chargers litter my abode, many peoples abodes and many rubbish dumps.
Nokia should stop providing Power Adapters (which must cost a lot in production and shipping (they weigh about a half pound!)) and simply give us USB cables with the phone, sell a separate USB power Adapter and save the planet a lot of resources. Same goes for Sony, LG, et al.
I know google support this concept, Larry Page spoke about it at their keynote in January:
Now shifting to talk about electrical power. Shows photo of power adapter clutter. “Why can’t we just standardize the power with a really nice power supply? (shot of happy power supply) We really needs standards in these areas.
“Most devices can be connected through adapters. You can basically adapt anything to USB for like $20. Do you really need all these ports running around? I don’t think it’s really necessary. Phones have been a really positive example. You can connect any bluetooth headset to any blue
“What we really need are adapters .. standards for security, discovery, peering and forwarding to the internet .. we also needs standards for protocols ,.. audio, video, displays…
“Finally like I mentioned, you can take USB and do most of these things with it.

Power supplies today …

… and tomorrow?
” I just want to plead with you to help standardize these things. I thought I’d throw this out to get people thinking.
I concur with Larry and wanted to remind all of you that there already is a standardized USB power Adapter and it is The Apple iPod USB Power Adapter.
So Pick one up before your next trip and realize the benefits of a single lightweight Power adapter that’ll charge your iPods, Cell Phones and some other USB devices.
